Bio
Bishop Richard Claude Merritt was born on August 6th to Claude and Josie Merritt of Dallas Georgia. He was a member of St. Paul AME of Dallas Georgia. Bishop began to search for the emptiness in his being and he made a statement that caught God’s attention: When the real thing comes along then I will follow it. Not knowing that he had already been predestined; God began to knock at the door of Richard’s heart and he answered the call and was born again in 1983. He joined Bethel Avenue Deliverance Center under Pastor Robert and “Liz” Ware of Dallas Georgia. He served as a Sunday school Teacher; Pastoral Aide, bus driver and he also kept up the maintenance of the sanctuary. He started at humble beginnings and served faithfully. In 1985, Brother Richard Merritt was called into the ministry where he served faithfully and went on to study from the school of Universal Faith Ministries under the direction of Dr. Bishop Albert Lee Henderson of Douglasville Georgia.
In 1986, Evangelist Phillips was introduced to Minister Merritt and the two was joined together in Holy Matrimony on December 6, 1986 along with her four children and his two sons and we all became a close family. After they were married, she turned the mission over into the hands of Minister Merritt. In 1990, Minister Merritt was called to pastorship where he would watch over God’s flock. God gave Pastor Merritt a vision and the ministry became known as the Freedom King Mission Church. The word “Freedom” expressing what the word of God says: Whom the Son has set free is free indeed.
Bishop Merritt, through his obedience to God, we built a “debt-free” sanctuary in Hiram, GA where it is presently located at 483 Hightower Rd. We moved into our new sanctuary in October of 2000. As we began to lift up Jesus in the place, God began to add family members not just church members. We gave God the praise for what he had done. This sanctuary served as our home for over four years; and finally in January of 2005 we purchased our new home located at 25 McCurdy Road in Villa Rica Georgia; where we expecting great and marvelous things to come. Here at Freedom King Mission Ministries, you are free to be delivered, free to be saved, and free to praise God to the fullest! But most of all Freedom King Mission Ministries is known for the love we have for one another and the body of Christ which was taught to us by our leaders Bishop R. C. and Pastor /First Lady L. A. Merritt.
